Towing specs

I have a 88 F350 Crew Cab 7.3 Diesel with a 5 speed. I am looking for trailer/gooseneck towing info for that model. The door shows 9200 as the GVWR. The registration showed somewhat lower, like 7200. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

I didn't know you could change classes. Any idea on how much weight I can tow? I have a gooseneck hitch and Class III hitch (maybe Class IV).

Go to Towing/Hauling forum and post that question. You will get tons of info, probably more than you'll ever need. Your question is a little confusing tho as to what your looking for. Towing weight is not the same as GVWR. GVWR is total weight of vehicle and load. 7K on title is truck weight, for license plate charge.

http://trailmanor.com/WebDocs/Campin...towratings.pdf

There is a list of towing spec's, don't show your's but you can come close. I would say between 8 & 10 K .

GN balls 2-5/16" are rated for 5K -- 6K --7K --10K--30K . 30K is a hardened ball. Balls are Gross Trailer Weight Rating, in other words pulling weight.

The GVWR of 9200 and title weight 7200 means you could put a GN tongue weight of 2K

on trucks of these vintage, the ford recomended numbers are pretty much meaningless... It has no basis on whether your truck is a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton, or what springs are in it.. Only what tranny, engine size, and gear ratio. I'll look in my owners manual tommorrow for the exact spec, but I remember it being stupidly low for trucks with a 5 speed.
