Hey all so i put a new throttle position sensor on my 73 today but cant seem to get it adjusted right put a multi meter on it and a paper clip in the middle hole of the plug in to adjust it to 1.0 volt at idle and 4 volts at wide open throttle but im getting a reading of 0.48 volts on both with no change if i adlust it am i doing something wrong it a very good $ 700.00 multimeter i borrowed from a friend HELP.

Engine needs to be fully warmed up before you take any measurements. You turn the ignition on, but do not start the truck. Positive probe of the meter goes where you were putting it, negative tho goes on one of the batteries.
Red is hooked up to centre wire on tps switch, Black is hooked to neg battery, and the switch is plugged in, engine at normal opeerating temp with ignition on, could their be a problem with the wiring to the trans? thanks in advance Gary

Not the wiring to the trans, no, but the FIPL/TPS itself - that could be. See, the way this thing works is it gets supplied a steady voltage (IIRC around 5V) by the PCM/TECA, and then it reduces that voltage to a value that is dependent on the angle at which the FIPL's input shaft is turned - the more the shaft is turned, the higher the voltage output. The new voltage then gets sent back to the PCM for processing and determining shifts points and gear selection. Really the FIPL is much like a variable resistor, kinda like how your dimmer switch works for the dashboard lights. So, if you can't read any voltage different from 0.48V then I think either the FIPL itself is done with, or maybe (and that's pretty far fetched, but still) the wire that supplies it with voltage is broken somewhere... I'll get back with you on the wire color and voltage in a few minutes, need to fire up my truck for that.
OK, power supply is 5V through the bottom of the three wires (the connector sits near vertical), can't tell ya color tho as thanks to me spraying the air filter box without removing it from the engine all the TPS wires are now black...
