Re: tranny guys..

If you are not locking up the T/C you are over heating the trans fluid. If a sensor goes out on these trans they go into failure mode, do not drive for any length of time (normally burn out the clutches in the T/C). Get the codes read (drivers side near the firewall on the fender is the connector). You need the FIPL, VSS and tack working correctly for the trans to shift. The other place you may want to look at is the solenoid pack connector, they get oxidized over time and the pins do not make good contact.

Re: tranny guys..

figured i'd update, ended up being the wires in the gear selector arm. i talked to my tranny guy and he said to swap the arm and low and behold it solved my problem. i opted to just swap out the arm/button and trim ring instead of trying to salvage the button and ring off the old one but all is well now. he also said if the od was not engaging then the trans was just running as if the od was switched off and if it were a problem then you would tear up your t/c just by hitting the off switch...makes sense to me...

Can you show where Ford says that? I have never found that in any of the many owner's manuals that I've read.

Re: tranny guys..

I just bought a 92 F250 7.3idi s/c auto 2wd. The truck is in excellent shape with 110,000kms. The trans seems to shift okay when unloaded, but with my 26' 5th wheel, it seems to upshift from 2-3 too quickly. Sometimes within 1 second of the 1-2 shift. It is like the trans is sensing too easy of a tow and it just upshifts. The obvious result is "instant bog" and loss of speed while I react to it and try to regain the lost MPH. I can hold it in 2 manually, or if I step the pedal down, it will down shift back into 2, but it really is anoying. Is there some aftermarket "Tow/Haul" accessory which could be installed, then activated via a switch on the dash to hopefully adjust the shift points and/or characteristics when towing?
Any comments are appreciated.
Clyde

I remember Mark K., too, and I'm sure he NEVER said you can't tow in overdrive.
