tranny lifespan after turbo install ? no transcommand ? etc.?

I havent found a deal on a Banks Transcommand yet and I will have my turbo on and running within a day or so. Can I run my truck without it for a few weeks or will that be too dangerous for it?
Is there a better or cheaper method that will work just as good?

Do I need to worry about Turbo break in or is there sufficient oil flow to cover that immediately. I had the turbo rebuilt and changed my oil also so I guess I am worried the engine will be a little dry for a minute before it feeds the turbo.
If it were a gasser I would just pull the distributer cap to the side but this diesel doesnt work like that.
Is that something I should worry about or am I too paranoid.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer,
Eric

Re: tranny lifespan after turbo install ? no transcommand ? etc.?

To prime the turbo with oil, just unhook the Fuel Shut off Solenoid wire from the top of the pump. This will keep the injection pump from suppling fuel to the engine so no fuel = no run. Just crank on it for a little, she will pump the oil up to the turbo then hook up electrical connection and enjoy.

As for how long the tranny will last I'm sure that it won't die within a week or so but let it go on for a couple months or even a week towing and you'll be in the shop. So basically I would keep my foot out of her and don't work her hard to preserve the tranny. When I did the banks install on The Enterprise I held off a day on installing the trans command to get a feel for how/what differences it made... And yes I could feel the difference, now it was not night and day but it was noticable and a nice change at that. But it's not going to kill the tranny real quick. Depending on how you drive...you might even eek out a year but if you drive like me - a month tops...

One option to explore is a new valve body by Brians Truck Shop. He quoted me $195.00 plus refundable $125.00 core charge. Brain claims it will do everything the TransCommand will do and do it without the electronics to worry about. You can install it yourself and gives you an excuse to replace filter and fluid.

Haven't bought mine yet, but it is on the list when I purchase the turbo.

I feel the valve body is the better way to go.

Brian said I could run w/o the Transcommand... I assume he replaced the valve body when he rebuilt my transmission.

That said, I am running the Transcommand... nice improvement, still.
