trans fluid

i just replaced the boot and cover assembly on the tranny i have (zf-5) and i noticed i need to add a little fluid. i allways used motorcraft atf dextrom and mercon compatible. wath do you think if i add some of that lucas stop slip tranns fluid just to help? is it good, neccesary, better? any other product that you'll add instead?

thank you, exekiel

Re: trans fluid

Id didn't any feedback from TDS members when I was looking for suggestions. A bud of mine that maintained a fleet of Ford trucks for many years specifically said synthetic ATF in the ZF (Mobile1 Full Syn. ATF = $5/qt.) or the dealer supplied "special ZF lube" ($20/qt.)...

FWIW, the Mobile1 seems to have made a difference in the shifts...meaning the synchros seem to fall right in line now... YMMV

Also, this result from adding Militec to the engine:

Re: trans fluid

Ditto! I first started using it about 15 years ago to prolong the life of some extremely hard to reach gearboxes (buried deep within the bowels of a 400' long processing machine = ULTRA PITA!)...went from 1 gearbox per week (total of 16 in that process) to 1 every 2 months!

Don't know if it's come down in price (seems a pint used to run $75USD! ), but well worth the price to make stuff live!

Edit: WOW! It's come *WAY* down in price (haven't purchased any in 10+ years)...will call the local rep. and see if he can still get it!

Re: trans fluid

Exekiel,
I've been running Red Line Synthetic in mine for about 40,000 miles now. Tranny shifts fine and is quiet as church mouse as it was making some noise in OD. Worth the $9.00 quart, in my opinion. My $.02...

Re: trans fluid

Exezial, the lik that they pasted above are the same as the instructions on the 16oz. bottle, I generally get together with a guy at work & we buy a case at a time (12-16oz. bottles) $185 http://www.militec1.com/miva/merchan...ategory_Code=1

or here http://militec1.com/miva/merchant.mv...16OZBOTTLESPEC (2-16oz. bottles $55) It's great stuff, you can Really tell the diference immediately on folding knives, guns, and a little bit longer for our trucks, made my tranny last longer when it started to get really sick last year before bloeey , You can also add it to the radiator to lube the water pump.
And NO, I don't know anyone at militec or make any money from recommending it, it works good for me, & looked at the technical data on sheer factor and other reports they had on their web page, and decided it would be good for me.

Re: trans fluid

i receibed 2 16oz bottle today and i added 6oz to the tranny. i hope it will be good to maintain it in good shape. i drove it a little this evening so far no difference, anyway my tranny have not given me any problem so far.

now about the engine oil, if i use the recomended motorcraft i still have to change it every 3k miles right. cause on the back label of this bottle said's to do so but also said's add every 15k miles .

any help appreciated, exekiel
