You weren't real clear in your post what transmission you have but I'm assumming a ZF5. Under the rubber boot there are four allen screws. Take those out and the shifter pulls straight up.

Do be very careful when removing the shifter. There are two pieces, 5th/reverse interlock and the interlock spring. If you knock them loose, they can and will drop inside the trans. Tim
