Well they may be taking you for a ride. Sometimes a bad case can be repaired if all that is bad it the boss the oil pump lever rubs against. I would think you could get a whole transfer case used for a lot less than $1600. Take a look at this link and get educated a little.
or go to www.car-part.com and fill in the info--should be lots of them on there---

When mine blew the 3rd time I considered buying used and found several near the $600 range however it cost me about $500 to put all new parts in my old case. It would have ran like new and lasted another 200k but the main shaft and pump were out of spec from the factory as I now know after blow up 3.
Rebuild is the way to go in my book and with a good manual and decent mechanics skills its not that bad.

hope you made a mistake in your sig our you have a problem with your gear ratio 355 in rear and 4 10 in front wont work well you will have the back end pushing the front and thats not good to much spred in the gears should be like 355 in back and 354 in front so the front pulls the back at least thats wat i was always led to believe

3.55 and 3.54 are effectively the same ratio, it's only like that because the front axle ring gear is smaller, so you don't have the same number of teeth on the ring and pinion. You probably have more of a difference if a tire is a few pounds low on air than the .01 difference in ratio.
If you are running in 4wd with 4.11 and 3.55, bolting in another transfer case is just a waste of time. As soon as you lock the transfer case in 4wd, something is going to break again.
