truck dying

okay on my way to school today my fuel filter light came on and my truck died. I poped the hood and looked at the filter, and it was fine got back in the truck and after about five or six turns the truck started and ran. I figured it was just maybe an air bubble or something, but on my way to get some diesel it did the same thing about 8 and a half hours later, once again after some cranks it started again. What could this be? About 2 weeks ago i changed the fuel filter and sediment bowl Im sure I filled the filter up completly when it was put back on. Thanks to everyone, and maybe someday I'll have an answer to a Question instead of posting one, though not likely. Also with the second time i was at a turn, do you think if an air bubble was the problem that could be what caused it the last time?
Thanks

Re: truck dying

thanks for the post i drove it for a long period of time after i posted this and let it idle for a little while. it runs fine, i was considering the pump which would be the most logical if this continues then i will buy it and replace only 23 dollars anyway

Re: truck dying

Fuel filter light comes on when there is a vacuum in the fuel system, which means the injection pump is sucking harder than the lift pump is supplying it. Since you have just changed the filter I'd vote for the lift pump getting weak...so for the 23059820398523th time on this site...pressure/flow tests at the schrader valve
