So I think my vacuum pump is going out yet again. This will be the 4th time I've replaced it... Seems to be a yearly thing. Ive been buying the pump that napa stocks. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions on things to check or another brand pump I should try?
Thanks in advanced
Taylor

Its just the 'NAPA Vacuum pumps' Brand. It even says it has a 12 month warranty. Now id just have to find my receipt or pony up and buy a new one from somewhere else. Any suggestions on a good brand that might last?

The Napa rebuilt pump I installed 3 years ago in a KOA in Shasta City is still working fine. Because we were on the road, I didn't want to chance no brakes going into Oregon/Washington. I replaced a Cardone from O'Reilly's and it's still good. Turned out low fluid level in M/C was causing light.

I have had very bad luck with assorted reman parts from Napa and of the many mechanics I've spoken to about it, it's not uncommon. But it's not impossible to have good luck either.

Me too, my Napa is about exactly the same age, still going strong. My original was still working fine, but after 18 years I figured its lifetime was about up. The Napa water pumps seem OK too, I always get 80,000+ out of one.

So I just threw my vacuum gauge on the pump and with nothing else between the pump and gauge I'm getting about 19 in Hg. If I remember that should be up around 25 correct?

At the brake booster I'm getting 18 in Hg. and with the A/C on I'm getting 17 in Hg. seems like i may have a little leak and a weak pump. Any thoughts?

sounds like that is my problem yet again. the other times it just completely stopped making vacuum or was very sputtery and inconsistent. Sounds like my pump is just getting weak.

I can't tell you it's because you're buying cheap pumps from Napa, but I wouldn't do that myself, even if it's worked out for other people. I believe mine is original, but I don't know for sure, and I sure haven't replaced it, so I don't have anything more interesting to tell you than that unless you want to know more about the vac troubleshooting procedure.
