What gear ratios were available in the Sterling Rear?
I'm eventually going to be running 37" tires, and 3.55's wont cut it with big rubber. I'm looking into factory gear ratios, cause I'm sure I can find someone with a set cheap.
Also, was any kind of factory locker or limited slip offered? Are they readily available(cheep)?

Re: What gear ratios were available in the Sterling Rear?
To my knowledge only the 3.55-1 and 4.10-1 are the only ratios available from the factory on our trucks.
I know the stuperduty trucks got 3.73 gears and 4.30-1 but I think they changed over to a 10.5 axle in the rear.
Not sure if the F450 used the same axle but they saw a few different gears also. 4.30-1 etc.
I am currently using 3.55-1 gears and 36 inch goodyears. The 3.55's do just fine until you get to pulling a trailer around. Then they just seem to be a little boggy. I am also getting ready for a swap to the 4.10 ratio to help out a bit with towing and hauling power.
Hope this helped,
Eric

Re: What gear ratios were available in the Sterling Rear?
Okay, here is my speal, I had 3.55's with the C6 with NO OD and 37's. Cruised at 2400RPMS at 70, good mileage and fairly decent power, but when I was pulling heavy in the hills, the split in between the gears with an auto were very difficult to use. I then swapped to 4.56's and man, the truck was screaming running empty, could not get to 70MPH without redlining and mileage was horrible. Then I added the GV's. Everything went back to being like stock, power, mileage and such. Except I had many more ratios and had the benifit of kicking down a gear to get the exact ratio needed. Now with doing that, I "wished" I went with 4.10's, I would have gotten better unloaded mileage and still had plenty of gears when I was towing the trailer. But to answer your original question, you can get 4.56, 4.10, 4.30, 3.73, 3.55, and I believe a 3.20 something. Good luck. Scotty
Re: What gear ratios were available in the Sterling Rear?
It will work perfect, (most) all trucks are a little faster in the front than rear, 3.55 in back, 3.54 front, and 4.11 and 4.10 in the front. Supposed to have the front spin a little faster for steering and such. That is why you are always told to NEVER put your t-case in 4x4 on pavement because the hard ground and rubber will not allow slippage, but as long as there is anything to relieve the stress like snow, dirt, rocks, you are fine, even heavy rain is probably enough.. Good luck with the build up. Scotty
Re: What gear ratios were available in the Sterling Rear?
Well, Two things.
One, the 4.11 will be up front, and the 4.10 will be in the rear, and this will be a daily driver, and it will be a full time 4x4.
I guess I'l have to find a set of 4.10's for the front.
