Re: what IP's are interchangable?? info needed soon!
if i remember right you can use a automatic drive IP on a standeard but not a standard on an ustomatic truck. also, a 7.3 Ip will work on a 6.9 but a 6.9 IP wont work on a 7.3...correct me if i am wrong, thats just what i have heard a few times.......Gibson
PS-if you need a 6.9 IP i can get you one pretty cheap. its used though. PM me if interested..........Gibson

Re: what IP's are interchangable?? info needed soon!
Yes the injections pumps will bolt right up.
Now the differences between an IP on a manual vs an Auto is nothing more than strapping the FIPL (Fuel Injection Position Level) over... which if you get a replacement pump from your local diesel shop you would be swapping this piece over anyways... so no big deal. On some of the IP that were on manual trucks they don't have the studs in them to hold the FIPL bracket but no fear just take them off the other pump or use bolts (choice is yours)...
But yep it will strap right on and have him rattlen' around the block again.
There are some differences inside pump but it will work just fine. Like one of the differences is the piston diameter in the pump is smaller on the 6.9 pump vs the 7.3 pump but just lean on the fuel screw a little and solve that problem - yes theorically you can pump more fuel with the 7.3 pump but if your not turbo'd and not like me you or your buddy would never notice

Re: what IP's are interchangable?? info needed soon!
Just bolt it on, be careful with the FIPL adjustment. If it's out it can make that E4OD run like an even bigger POS than we already know it is. I think there are some instructions here on how to keep it happy in terms of propr FIPL adjustment. I say don't even bump the fuel screw unless he is turbo'd and with gauges to monitor EGTs,

Re: what IP's are interchangable?? info needed soon!
Thanks for the info guys! I'll let him know to grab it! His truck is a ZF-5, n the 6.9 is a 4 speed. Also hes got a banks kit so can we turn up the IP from the 6.9 same as we did the 7.3?

Oh yeah, same thing! Just keep an eye on EGTs as per usual. Adjust fuel and driving accordingly.
