Re: What temp does the cold start solenoid activate?

It's warmer than 44 degrees. Mine kicks on when the truck has been sitting all day in 90 degree heat.

Re: What temp does the cold start solenoid activate?

For some reason, 112 deg f stands out in my head, I believe it kicks in below that and kicks out at 112....then again, maybe I'm going crazy

Re: What temp does the cold start solenoid activate?

The Engine Temperature Switch provides voltage to the Cold Timing Advance Solenoid and the Cold Idle Solenoid. When the engine temperature is below 112°F (44°C), the Engine Temperature Switch is closed. When the Ignition Switch is turned to START or RUN, the solenoids are energized, advancing injection pump timing and engine idle, allowing the engine to run more smoothly when cold. When the engine temperature reaches 112°F (44°C), the Engine Temperature Switch opens. This deenergizes the solenoids, returning the timing and idle to normal.

Re: What temp does the cold start solenoid activate?

Ah, good catch. I did not note the F/ C part. That makes sense. Also, does the fast idle solenoid energize with the A/C on like some engines do?

No. The idle kick up is used on gassers with fairly low torque to keep the motor from dying with the extra load of the compressor.

Re: What temp does the cold start solenoid activate?

im gonna say it right now, this is off topic,

but i think it is hilarious if your engine cant keep an ac compressor running unless it is running at a fast idle.

Re: What temp does the cold start solenoid activate?

It was a functional observation as to many vehicles that have a fast idle solenoid also activate them during A/C comp. operation.

If the engine is cold then consider the oil is cold and if fast idle is not used the engine has a hard time keeping itself going in most cases...... The A/C will kick in if the defrost is selected in the winter/cold just for lubrication of the system...

Here the humidity is quite high making all the windows fog until the engine is warm enough to cook it off unless the A/C compressor engages.
