is it at the top of the timing chain cover? My tach has been intermittent lately.
The wires at that location are bare for an inch or two, maybe they are touching?

Front Captain seats. Control switches for DRL's , Fog lites, High speed idle, Engine kill and scene lites. On board " York " compressed air, Air horns and built in hose reel behind the rear seat. Power bar distribution box from a 1999 Ford Explorer . Checker plate running boards and Frieghtliner mud flaps. LED turn signals in the factory mirrors. Cut one wire and use heat shrink tube jammed into the sender as far as possible to separate wires......then solder and shrink tube.
