I have been looking for a used replacement for 99 2wd 250 and fleabay has a 90 4x4 350 tranny w/TC, I was wondering if I could swap Tshafts and
be good?

knowing my luck, no.

Thanks guys

You need to swap the extension housing and the output shaft. Not too hard to do it you know how to rebuild a trans. EVERYTHING needs to come out of the case to change the output shaft. It's the last part out and the first part in when reassembling.

I did it on a Ch**y 700R4 once, really a PITA because almost the whole trans needs to come apart. It was worthwhile for me because the trans was free. If I were you I would wait for the right trans, one will come along.

also--your 99 has all the newer stronger parts in it--the 90 most likely aint never been touched--hence none of the updates--

Re: Will a 4x4 E4OD fit with my 2wd tailshaft?

I missed the '90 into a '99 thing. That won't work at all. The lockup solenoid won't work with the '99 computer, and the '90 doesn't have the sensors that the '99 computer needs to see. And the '90 computer doesn't run the engine, so you can't use that computer, either.

This swap won't work at all. Keep looking.

I'll bet you guys he wants to put it in an 89, not a 99.

Exactly, an 89, sorry for the typo.

but either way if I was going to tear the tranny completely down I would just "try" to rebuild mine.

Thanks again for all the responses, you guys make this a killer site for getting knowledge.
