Yep, you are CRAZY. Put that money into a retirement acct. OldTimerism scoots up on ya faster than you think. ***, how'd that happen? OkieG
I used to work at a Catapiller dealer (Ziegler), and I learned that some of the shop guys were installing Cat engines into personal pick ups.
I recall that their cost for the engines was 10K - 12K, plus personal labor.
I recall little else, except that the boss like these installs.

man you aint crazy. well on the money part yeah, but look around find a donor with a different engine and go at it. i have a '73 ford f-250 4x4 with a mercedes benz 6 cyl. turbo diesel and a 5 speed trans. it is different and it runs and drives great. i found the truck setting in a barn lot the guy gave it to me to get rid of it. total cost of this swap was very low.
Just recently on E-Bay a guy offered up a 78 F250 4X4 with a 3208 Cat in it, the closing bid was over $12,000 and never met the reserve on that sweet looking truck.......

Yup, those 3208s fit, but not very well. Used to have a 91 f-350 with one in it. Got rolled into a ditch and sold for junk.
