yool to cut open oil filter

I remember seeing it somewhere but could not find it. Works like a big tubing cutter. Can you post a link? Much appreciated.

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

I've never seen such a yool.

Why do we want to cut open the oil filter now?

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

Hack saw will put metal shavings into the filter, negating the point of cutting it open.

Ask a few local mechanics if they have one. Or if you REALLY need one of your own, do a Yahoo! search of "oil filter cutter" you will get dozens of different options. You're looking at anywhere from $50 - $100 plus shipping.

On edit, the diesle filter is much larger than most automotive filters, so you will need to make sure the one you get can handle our large filters. They actually have pipe cutters that big, maybe bug your local plumber.

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

Yool guys are A-OK! Never heard of a Yak saw before but it sounds cool where can I get one?

Good idea going to a Baldwin dealer. There's a Fleetpride near me I'll give them a try.

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

I use an air chisel...not perfect, it does get a few chips in the filter but not many and I can tell what it did vs what might have come from the engine.

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

I use something similar, an automotive body panel cutter. It looks like a little 3 fingered fork you put in the air chisle and cuts by removing about 3/16" worth of sheet metal in a nice little ever growing curl as you go. Just get it started near the threaded base and zip it on around, like a can opener. http://www.autotoolmart.com/cgi-bin/...&p_catid=0 second from left

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

The one I have is made by Champion that I used on aircraft filters. I have not tried it on my truck yet, so I'm asuming it will fit.

Re: yool to cut open oil filter

Just about anyplace that sells aircraft parts will carry them ( filter inspection is part of normal service ). there's a number of places online.
