ZF 5 question - Diesel Forum

hi everybody
i should know this but its my first diesel are there any ports to hook up a trans cooler to a zf5 s-42 or is it a sealed unit? if not great but if so where do i hook them up

There is no pump in it presently, so you would have put one in a line... The gears just move the ATF around to the required lubrication points.

ATF? The ZF-5 is a handshaker.......

Yes, all the '90 and up ZF's and transfercases, for that matter too, use ATF.

Ah, i was a little puzzled when i got my truck from my dad and found an empty ATF bottle lying on the floor.

manual transmission. shaking your hand around all the time to shift the gears.
