zf 5 spd swap to a zf 6spd

Hi does anyone know if you can swap a zf 6 spd trans in place of the zf 5spd ..if so thanks.

You need the rear axle from a zf-6 speed truck. You can use a zf-6, but you wont have a speedo, because it reads from a pick-up in the axle housing, not the rear of the trans.

You also have to use the SD transfer case due to a difference in the splines connecting trans to tc. There is a member on here that did it,he had the truck up for sale lately....

Hers: 96F250 CCSB 7.3 PSD 4x4 5spd 3.55 LS 190,000 miles. Puchased 7/03, Looked for a 5spd CCSB for a year!Dana 60 front axle, at stock F350 height (for now) Energy Poly bushings, Bilsteins, 305/70/16 Pro Comps on 16x10 Weld Outbacks, AFE Pro7,TYMAR 3x3.5x4 downpipe,TYMAR 5" straightpipe, gutted EBV, IH Non EBV pedistal,New Alliant AC Injectors,(stage 1)Cal reg kit, SBC Con O clutch, permenent clutch bushing fix, AC mod with a different twist, AMP Powersteps with custom brackets and wiring(one of 2 OBS trucks with them according to AMP) Line of Fire. Sees dirt everyday.
My Company pickup: 86 F250 6.9 C6 320,000 miles Co trucks 5 89 to 94 IDI's, plus about 50 more diesels.

2wd or 4wd?

Some 7.3 IDIs had the speed sensor on the diff.

No you cannot just swap them out. They're too different. "jaybee" is a member here and did fab up a ZF6 swap to his 7.3 IDI. He also has pictures in the photo gallery here. He's the only one I've seen do this swap.

thanks for the info kida thought its was gonna be like that but when i do the cummins swap mabe just buy the adapter plate for a zf6 and it not be so bad to do..
