Re: 87 F250 ??

beat the snot out of it. I'm the third owner of my truck, first two where father and son, and friends of mine. mine has quite a few miles on it as you can see in my sig. I drive an average of 100 miles a day and all I do is keep clean oil in it and do as the previous owners did(run the dog stuff out of it). love it,just wish I had an over-drive.

Re: 87 F250 ??

As long as it's a 6.9 I wouldn't worry much about cavitation. Just use the stuff as cheap insurance one you get it. Worry more about head gaskets and injectors and IP and misc. fuel system stuff. And it's like Mudslinger said, the most important thing is that you keep good, clean oil in it. Diesel rated stuff. You can verify a 6.9 and not early 7.3 by looking at the headbolts. 6.9s have 12 pt 7/16"-14 bolts and 7.3s have 1/2"X xx head bolts. Also the engine code for 7.3 is "M" and 6.9 is 1. If it is a 7.3 reference what Pete said....if it isn't protected.....consider it a gamble and pay yoru money accordingly. Best of luck,
J.D.

it is a 6.9 per vin, i've already checked that, i've talked to him once before and seem to remember he had a lot of elec related stuff done. i'll find out for sure and list all info it looks like he won't go any lower than 1500. i sold my 81 f150 today so i've got to get it soon.

Re: 87 F250 ??

Pounce it for 1500 bucks. Even if it has a few weak points, worst case scenario you could make that in parts $$ on evil bay,

Re: 87 F250 ??

make sure it's a manual transmission (preferably 5 speed) or you'll get terrible fuel economy and if it's the overdrive auto, be prepared to spend $3500 to get it fixed.

Re: 87 F250 ??

Yea I blew that about the SCAs.........but the C6 is a tough trans just no overdrive. I would pounce on it as stated. The electrical was probably the wiring on the right fender or under the booster they are problem areas.
