bent clutch rod?

How in the world did I bend the threaded rod that inserts into the clutch master cylinder. I mean its a "z" now. I had problems grinding into reverse and the clutch wouldnt release all the way but could i have adjusted it to far out and bent it. On average how much thread past the locking nut should show about a 1/4 inch or so. Please help need my truck. everything about it is in my sig.

Re: bent clutch rod?

The "grinding into reverse and the clutch wouldn't release all the way" is a classic symptom of a cracked firewall. Most of the time it will shift OK while it is cold and shifting will get harder as the truck get warmer. That statement will make sense to you if you have had the crack for a while. I does sound like you tried to fix the symptoms by adjusting the rod too far.

I didn't think that my truck had a stiff clutch, until I had mine working right, now it almost falls to the floor.

Re: bent clutch rod?

this thing has a 1/4 inch plate that looks like a repair kit. I think it was the master cylinder because the carpet under my floor mat was soaked in break fluid.

Re: bent clutch rod?

there is two, one on the bottom of the breather where the intake tube comes in. the second is behind the head light on the driver side where the intake tube draws air in from the outside. they say they're there to keep bugs and water out but a filter will stop bugs and I haven't seen a hard enough rain to get up there, And I live in the ohio river valley, it rain sideways here.

Re: bent clutch rod?

On the bright side; you are about to have a new clutch linkage system.

While you have the fork out will be a great time to lube the throw out bearing.
