Brake problems

Well, the brakes in my 3/4T don't seem to want to work as well anymore. I have to pump them 2 times to get good brakes. Pulled the drums off last night. I'm not leaking any fluid. I thought it was possible that they just needed adjusting, but that didn't help. I have vaccum when I pull the hose off the booster. I'm thinking it's the master cylinder, but it holds pressure after the second pump. Any suggestions? I hate throwing parts at a problem.

Re: Brake problems

What condition were the back brake shoes, worn more at the top, cracked.....did you get the drums measured for oversized and beyond safe limit. Were they adjusted up to the max driven for a day then re adjusted.

Mine went in couple days ago for service at the shop. I requested new callipers, Wagner themoquiet pads and due to cracks new discs. After checking the rears we found cracked shoes, worn on the top more than bottom and when the drum was measured they were 30 thou oversized. New drums and Wagner TQ shoes on the back now too, all done for a cool $1000CDN.

OH! did I mention local Ford did the rear brakes about 5 years ago, the drums presently showed no appreciable wear........but they must have oversized the drums when they turned them and installed new Ford shoes, probably did not bother to check drum limits....PMO
