C6 tranny removal

About 24,000 miles ago my C6 tranny was rebuilt by so called professional shop. The torque converter is DSL HD. I asked and provided the rear main seal (Ford original) for replacement and perhaps was replaced but soon after the engine rear started leaking.
Last weekend on the way home my tranny started leaking real bad at the front of the bellhousing, on 100 mile I used up 5qts of fluid but I got home without a tow. Any suggestion for where might the leak coming from?
Now I plan to remove the tranny myself, replace the rear main oil seal and perhaps fix my tranny.
Can I pull the C6 out from the '85 F350 4WD having the truck on a stand? Is the transfer case need to come out also?
Any suggestion for replacement of the rear main seal kit?
Thanks.

Your leak might be coming from the seal on the torque converter. Sometimes, shop guys will mount the converter and leave it hang on the shaft for way to long thus warping it. It could have been faulty too.

Is there any warranty left on it??? If there is I would take it back to them.

The shop went out of business, so there would be no warranty.
The engine seal kit is on the way and will tackle with it once get the parts.

My 2wd wasn't hard at all to remove the tranny. The main problem I had was the cross-member. The top bolts are hard to get to to remove the "dog ears" where the rear motor mount is located.

I don't know how much harder it would be with a transfer case for the 4wd. The only thing I suggest is a tranny jack. Those things are priceless when removing and installing a tranny.

If you do do it yourself, just put the front on stands and use a second jack to support the motor so you don't push the fan into the radiator.

If you don't remove the tranny completly then it would be easier yet. Just get it pulled backwards enough to access the torque converter. If your doing the motor seals your self then that's a different ball of wax. You'll have to get the motor jacked up 6 inches or so to get the oil pan droped if you have to. Go to autozone.com they have the repair guides listed on-line, comes in real handy.

Good Luck, keep us posted.

I have it out. For best result remove the T/C first then the tranny. Removal of the T/C is easy, for tranny use transmission jack, chained or fastened to jack!
For an other problem see my latest post:
Beware of Rear Main Seal Defect

My first hand experiences with the C6 tranny:
Drain fluid
Remove t/c first
Use a tranny jack
Watch out for the torque converter not to fall out

Now to my problem, as stated earlier the tranny leaked out on bell housing as fast as one could pour in the fluid.
The problem is/was that the bushing within the front pump moved out into the front seal. The front seal looked OK when I pulled out but the bushing extended about 1/8 to 1/4" outward from the housing while it should been flush. The bushing should not come out since it is svaged in into a slot at two places into the pump housing. Replacement of the bushing require to pull the front pump.
