I have the twin I-beam front end, and I've noticed it's mostly the 4wd guys who have the problem with the death wobble.
Yesterday, I was driving about 35- 40 mph, with 2 tons of dirt, when all the sudden the front end started shimmying really bad. I thought I had a flat tire or something of the nature. It did it clear up to the point I turned, pulled over and stopped. Got out, checked the tires, went on my way with no problems.
Will my truck get the death wobble??

its mostly a 4x4 thing like you said though some form of it or a similar cause may happen but ive noticed in uhauls over the years taht 4x2 trucks tend to have a large reaction to the road so maybe the road was bumpy and your stering box was a bit loose from use over the years and it shook you around a bit
but the common death wobble is 4x4 as far as I know

Excessive wear in any of the steering and suspension parts/bushings can cause the death wobble........ If you were front end light with that load it would be more likely to occur.

Thanks for the quick responses. My steering has play in it, and my first thought was the road that threw me off. I drove it around the rest of the day and had no problems with it.
The steering box leaks, and I do have play in the steering. That was the next route on maintenence that I'm going to address soon. I'm going to take it in and have the alignment done, and have them check the steering, bearings, ect.
Thanks again

So I finally got it to a shop today to check the alignment. Turns out I have a pivot arm bushing that is rotted, and two "cam braids"??? At least I think that's what he told me over the phone. Something to do with the wheel camber, but it's probably called something else.
Quoted price to fix and align, $450. One of the issues involved was dropping my plow mount to get to the pivot bushing. At least I think that's what he said. Got to love paying for extra labor.
I try to do all the work myself, but I felt I should leave this one up to the profesionals. Luckily I get to ride it off my business taxes.
