External Dimensions of the 6.9L engine

Got a wild hare to make a Bonneville Salt Flats racer powered by a 6.9 diesel with a turbo of course.

Using very very tall gearing, intercooling and a turbo set up for high end power, should be fun.

Question is, I would like to know the external dimensions of the engine, mounting points, and also the mass of a complete engine for my frame calcs.

I'm thinking of something along the streamliner model.

Re: External Dimensions of the 6.9L engine

Sounds like great fun. I am hoping to go to Speed Week this coming summer. If you are serious about this idea it would be best to go and get a core complete engine for jig use. Block it up in your shop and build around it. Before you start contact the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) and they should be able to provide you with the technical requirements for any class you are thinking about entering your vehicle in. It would be sad to take something you built there and not pass tech inspection.I understand there is a fellow up in this area building a multi engine streamliner. A friend said he and his hot rod club have been to the guys place and his car is awesome. Might be good to talk to him about what is involved. I could probably get a name for you if you are interested.JimBellingham, WAe-mail jauguston@webtv.net

Re: External Dimensions of the 6.9L engine

The top speed for a single piston driven engine streamliner is about 424 miles per hour. Its held by Al "Elmo" Teague of Elmonte Ca. I remember meeting him a few years back. I was in his shop here in Whittier and saw the car. Really neat. The liner is so narrow that the front tires are almost inline. He started this years ago and now its done by everyone. The blown KB motor turns about 7400 rpm at 400+mph while the front tires are turning about 8800 rpm! Yes, thats really spinning fast. These tires were last made around 1967 so not many left anywhere. Really a neat car built by a privateer.
