Hard start (better than it was) and dies every so often when RPMs lower quickly

Diesel guys,

I have an 85 F250 4x4 with a 6.9 and live in Atlanta, GA.

I really love this truck.

I was recently having a really hard time starting the truck, so replaced fuel injectors and glow plugs. both really needed replacing.

Now it starts significantly better, but if I let it sit for a day or two, it really struggles to crank, but eventually will. (before, i would have to have to have it it plugged in to start.

Also, the engine has died a couple times. I have noticed it is when the RPMS lower significantly like coming to a stop.

Other than these things, the truck drives like a million bucks (especially after the new tires and u joints i just put on it .

Since I have replaced the glow plugs and injectors, does anyone have any thoughts?

Regarding your sudden shut off when RPMs drop rapidly, I have experienced this. I believe something in the governor inside the pump got sticky. I was able to fix it by holding the throttle wide open then side stepping it so it slammed back to idle. Did this for a few minutes with the engine off, and it seems to come back to an idle now without dying.

I blame my WMO use for this, but it may also be from sitting unused for a long period of time.

Thank you for the reply. Your comment about sitting makes sense. It is not an every day driver and does sit for a week or so at a time. I will follow you advice. Thanks again
