Help! Stuck in reverse. - Diesel Forum

1984 4-speed. Backed out of driveway and shifter will go in 1st but won't move. Shifter will go through all gears but truck will only go backwards. Took the shifter off and can move the two pulley-looking things that the forks go over. Let me back-up; just before this I started to take a plug out to check the fluid. Before I got the plug out I noticed it was higher than the driveline and decided it was not the right plug so I screwed it back in. When I got the shifter off I noticed that the plug looked like an adjustment for an "arm" in the tranny. Don't know if that had anything to do with getting stuck in reverse or not. Need help please.

IIRC the plug you were pulling holds something in the trans, if you pull the plug and the pin that's part of it too far out the thing that rides on it falls off causing shifting issues.
