Mobil Delvac 15W40

Have any of you guys had experience with Delvac 15W40?

It's getting about time to change the oil here and I want to get another opinion of this oil.

My friend has a PowerStroke and has driven trucks for years. I've just not had any experience with this particular brand, primarily Rotella and Delo (ugh I hate that oil).

Also have you guys ever done the PowerStroke oil filter swap on your 6.9? You get an added 1/3rd or about of extra filter when you put one of those on.

Any suggestion would help.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

can't say anything about the delvac, as i've always run amsoil 15w40. but most guys here & upstairs seem to like the rotella. maybe spring for the synthetic blend?

click here for a recent thread about the filter - found it with a quick search of the archives, BTW... i run a powderstroke size on my 7.3 these days, & apparently the motorcraft FL1995 is the part # and will fit the 6.9 as well.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

That's good to hear from a fleet mechanic. I know I can get Delvac for cheap around here in Seattle.

Now if I could only get lower diesel fuel prices, gotta start making biodiesel......

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

I've been running the FL1995 2qt Stroke filter on mine for a little over 3 years. I also read that it has better filtration than the 1qt Fl784.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

I couldn't get it to fit on my 2WD automatic truck. I hear it will work on any other type of 6.9, i.e 4X4 or T19/ZF5. It really looks like it should work on tyhe 2WD C6 model but I just can't get it to. Wish I could. can't tell the original poster about the Delvac, use Shell Rotella T here.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

I run Rotella 15w40 and use a Powerstroke filter. (FL1995)No problems here. I also have a 2wd F250 w/ C6 automatic.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

John & JD, my son's Super Cab 2wd has no problem using a Stroker filter but I use the Rotella Synthetic in both of mine. I'm rewoking the 6.9 in my nephews to sale now but will use Delo, Delvac, or Rotella dino in it. The future owner can use what he prefers.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

i use the delvac and have had good results, i like it alot. i was talking to my parts guy about going to something other than rotella and he told me about this oil. he said thathe used to drive bug rigs for the second largest company in the world and they used it in all of their diesels and only changed them about 15-20,000 miles, i said ok ill take a case! although i would never run my oil that long.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

Yeah, well, you have to consider that OTR drivers are almost always at highway speeds, just cruising right in the engine's preferred opearting range, less wear occurs here and they also have larger oil sumps and better filtration. Does anyone know why my truck o=won't accept teh FL-1995 or if I just did something wrong. Thanks a lot,
J.D.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

i'm confused, JD...
what's not fitting? thread size? maybe you got a bad part?

physical size of it? i've never been under anyone's IDI but mine - but the OF is so far forward, i just can't see how the tranny would matter?

EDIT!!! forgot to mention - there's a pic in my gallery of a BG drains the clearly shows my OF.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

JD,
Sometimes I have a little trouble starting the FL1995. It kind of sits at an angle and it's a little tight near the oil pan, but it does fit. I've been using it since around 2001 when I learned it would fit. Maybe you got a bad filter? It should work.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

John, I tried two different ones at many angles. i wish it would work. It would be nice to ahve the extra oil and better filtration. I tried it on my friend's 1984 2WD reg cab dually w/ C6 also so I figured it was 2WD C6 models only that it wouldn't work on. Maybe I'll try yet again. SOme of you all might remember Danweis, who for some odd reason couldn't get any filter but a Fram on his truck, not ebven the stocker FL-784!! So I don't know what teh deal is, it looks like it should fit, the threads are the same, it just won't start, and the 784 fits like a glove,
J.D.

Re: Mobil Delvac 15W40

I have been using the FL1995 on my truck since I have owned it and shell Rotella 15/40, the only thing I am changing is going to swap to synthetic 5/40 to see if I get a little better hot oil pressure, other than that, maybe a little more mileage out of my oil. Scotty
