'new' truck questions...

I just came in to a 87 F250 with a 6.9 and a 5 speed standard. Is there anything peculiar I should know about these motors before I start?

The previous owner let the fuel filter clog/ran it out of fuel/dropped the fuel tank (????) and never put it back up. Gave me the truck for free.

Do I need to bleed the individual injector lines or can I just bleed the filter head to get it going? Would it hurt this injection pump to feed it with a lift pump?

I want to leave it pretty much stock as a reliable tow rig for my other toys. Thanks.

A truck for free

Is always a good deal. When you get it back together just make sure that the batteries have a good charge. You might want to fill the filter with fuel before you put it on. It might take a bit of starting to get it to fire up make sure you give the starter a good "rest" if you crank it for more than 30 seconds so it will cool back down. as far as bleeding goes it will work if you bleed at the filter. It will run rough for a little bit as the air is purged, may die but it will smooth out and when it does you will have a very reliable hard working, easy to work on truck

These trucks have a stock lift pump feeding the IP(Injection Pump), the stock one is mechanical and is located low near the front of the passenger side of the engine.

You shouldn't need to bleed the injector lines, keep it floored while cranking to get the IP moving the max amount of fuel.

The batteries are toast, the truck has sat for about two years everything still connected but I have a buddy that should be able to get me blemished Optimas for almost nothing.

I am stoked, in three weeks I'll be cleaning out rat's nests and getting it ready to register. I'm sure I'll be back then looking similar to this ->
