Pyro Guage

Thanks to all who helped with my injection pump questions. Things are looking up.

The previous owner on this truck adjusted the injection pump and consequently I would like to get a pyro gauge to monitor temperature. Can I buy a guage without buying a "boost kit" I'm having a hard time finding one.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

A naturally aspirated 6.9 will not get egt's high enough to cause problems. If you turn the pump up too much it will just smoke black upon acceleration.

Might be a good idea to monitor the EGT's anyway...You can get a pyrometer by itself from most anyhwere gauges are sold. Mine are all autometer and they offer a variety of faces.

I would be willing to bet that in a N/A IDI you could turn the fuel up high enough and stand on the pedal hard enough to melt stuff.

Just hook a trailer to it and then try to do the speed limit up a good hill.

i agree these engines can reach high EGTs and they can do it fast, i have mine turned up one flat and i can hit 1000 easy just under hard acceleration with no trailer. im going to turn it back down because without a turbo it doesnt give anymore power just lowers mpg and raises EGTs, makes pullin a trailer difficult as well haha
