rear tank problems

my 86 250 rear tank sending unit broke off. I scavenged an 83 250 tank and put it on my 86. the hookups were different but i think i got them connected right. when i switch to the rear tank it registers right on how full it is. but its not getting the fuel to the engine. after about 5-10mins of idle the engine dies. runs out of fuel. anyone know what could be wrong. what should i check for. thanks

yeah, i think it is about 1/4 full. I took the tank off of an 83 and it worked fine on that. I may have broken it on the transfer. thanks

problem solved

I dropped the tank. hooked up the fuel line while the tank was on the ground using a longer peice of line. then tried running the truck off that tank. everything was fine. then reinstalled the tank and now everything runs fine. maybe the fuel line was crimped or something. although my gauge reads half full when its really only a quarter full. thanks
