Recommendations on finding good diesel

After finding out so much about new ulsd being harmful on older diesel engines when it doesn't have the proper lubricative treatment from the fuel plant, I wonder if anyone here can post specific brands of fuel or chains of gas stations that they know to regularly carry good diesel that's treated as it should be. I think instead of worrying so much about which additive is best we should focus on making sure we get the best diesel we can, in addition to a good additive.

Thanks guys

Use the major brands or truck stops.... mom and pop 2Cents off stuff is not recommended. You still need to do some additive addition for peace of mind unless the station indicates addititve installed.....

I agree 100% with Pete. I have used both and I can say that the "cheap" stuff is just that...junk. I use Power Service Diesel Kleen ( silver bottle) in EVERY tank of fuel I run. Get it at Wally world. The tank I am working on now is from the mom and pop by the house, and I can tell the difference from going to the Flying J up the hiway about 20 miles.

I'm thinking of getting mine from a bp/amoco close to the house as regularly as possible. I'm still going to use an additive, but would like to know I'm using the best fuel I can so the additive is only extra protection, not only getting you back up to minimum tolerances. You fellas know of any brands that only provide additive-installed fuel?

If you pay attention to the trucks that are filling up the mom and pop stores and the more expensive stations you will usually see the same truck. Also 90% of the time that truck comes out of the same refinery. The big difference would be how long the fuel sits in the mom and pops tank as compared to one such as Flying J. As was said if it makes you feel better putting something extra into your tank then do it. I personally have been using good old WalMart 2 stroke oil and have noticed the engine running quieter and others have commented on it also.

Unlike gasoline diesel can develope microbs. Use fuel from a station that has regular turnover.

I have found that Stanadyne is a great product. I used it in my 83 6.9L. In my current engines it makes a bigger difference. They run smoother and quieter.

My 6.0L runs really smooth with it. It is nice to listen to.
