Restrictor plate?

Did someone here post about drilling out a restrictor plate on a 6.9 intake? I know that there is a post on drilling 20 holes in filter housing to the equivalent of 1.5", but I could not find it there.

Re: Restrictor plate?

The best way to remove restriction on a NA 6.9 is to remove the 'soup bowl' from the air cleaner housing.

I know of no restrictor plate on the 6.9, normally all diesels have wide open intake tracts.

Re: Restrictor plate?

OK, thanks for the help, but whats the soup bowl? The filter housing seems to be much smaller than the larger intake opening.

Re: Restrictor plate?

The soup bowl is inside the air cleaner housing. It's a huge bowl shaped object that IH put in there I think to silence intake noise, but the engine is loud enough as it is.

All it does is restrict airflow and should be taken out.

Re: Restrictor plate?

There is a restrictor plate. Some came with it others did not. I'll find my post from before. I made a post about drilling it out.

Re: Restrictor plate?

Yep the Jolley 'ol Retard plate. You should notice a difference, if nothing else a little better fuel economy and less smoke
