Smokin White smoke at start.

Hey guys, had a question, my 86 just got new head gskts, and i put ARP head studds, new injectors, new glow plugs, the valve springs, the whole deal. I have the banks turbo kit on it and right now it runs great, but when i start it it chugs white smoke out, its not coolant, its white oil smoke. Im guessing its gota do with the turbo. I can shut the truck off wait 3-4 min. and turn it back on and it does it again, after about 30 sec. of chuggin smoke it clears up. As for anything else, it seems to be running fine, but it burns alot of oil. Any ideas guys? thanks for the help.

SOUNDS LIKE A TIMING or glow plug issue to me !How old is the fuel pump and what kinda plugs did you use?

Re: Smokin White smoke at start.

There's a switch that controls the advance soleniod on the right side of the engine just above the thermostat, follow the wires from the injection pump it will lead you to it, it may be disconnected, damaged etc...

Re: Smokin White smoke at start.

I'm going to agree with Fred. Timing. I was stubborn with these guys about this when I did my head gaskets. Thought I could not have jumped timing but I did. You need to ahve it checked with tools. Sounds like great project otherwise. I'll bet that thing is 2-3 degrees retarded or if not you might have a small air leak at startup. Drainback problem. Very common.

Re: Smokin White smoke at start.

ive heard of the newer powerstrokes (94-97) doing that because of o-ring problems in each injector dumping fuel into the cylinder...

usually white smoke on a head gasket job means the thing got botched.....maybe some dealer nerd started and reved the heck out of it before it was properly sealed?
