I too have a little bit of hard shifting on my '86 E-350 6.9 C-6. Pete's gallery gives a test for the vacuum pump but I didn't see anything about adjusting the throttle pressure sensor on the throttle linkage. Can someone tell me where to find that information?

i found a spring unhooked on the throttle link not sure what it does but i put it back. if the thing was rebuilt wrong would this cause it to do this? about vacuum would a loose belt cause bad vacuum?

A loose belt could cause low vacuum and low vacuum=hard shifts so it's a possibility. Was the spring holding up the downshift rod ? The downshift rod has enough weight to hold the lever on the trans down---hence the reason for the spring.
i was looking at those pics of the 7.3 head repair and i see why the trans shifts hard the downshift rod is missing?
