What are the weak links or things that were a problem on the older 6.9. I have a chance to buy an 86 with 87,000 miles. Rebuilt 4 speed with taller 4th gear.
Did the older ones have head problems etc.?
Good or bad, that sounds like a great deal. My most common problems have been with the glow plugs and the controller and the fuel return lines. Make sure you have good operational plugs and either replace the plug controller or convert to a push button system. The fuel lines tend to get old and brittle over the years so make sure they are in good order. These things will help make life easier. Good luck.
