Hello, I know this post is in the wrong section but I'll answer anyway.
The 6.0 started in 2003.5. The 6.0 is a great motor; however, it has had some reliability issues. That being said, I love my 6.0... you can get some SERIOUS power when you have it tuned properly, and I have had no major engine problems yet with 95k miles. The 7.3 is historically more reliable, but the numbers don't compare to the 6.0. In 2006-2007, after working out the bugs, the 6.0 was the engine with the least warranty issues of all ford's line. The 6.0 has terrible fuel economy, especially if you lift the truck and add some big rubber. I get about 12-13mpg avg with my truck lifted, 35's, and programmer set on extreme with a heavy foot. I'm sure I could do better with a stock truck, economy setting on the tuner, and driving like grandma, but that's no fun. I'm not sure if the 7.3 is better economy, maybe some owners can pipe up. The 2003 6.0l turbo SCREAMS, especially with turbo-back exhaust put in. If I had the choice again I would stick with the 6.0, because it has more potential IMO, as long as you are willing to risk blowing a head gasket from 500+ hp and 900ft*lbs of torque.
