I have 87 k miles on my 1987 6.9 with a dealer installed ATS turbo. When should the oil be changed? I assume the oil should be changed more often than a non-turbo.
According to ATS's original installation instructions you are right. ATS recommends every 2500 miles. I installed my ATS kit in about '93 but I still stuck with the 5000 mile change interval. Oils have improved plus for engine longevity I feel it's more important never to lug it under a hard pull, always let it idle a few minutes after a long hard run and generally treat it right with a little common sense. I've put 248,000 miles on it, mostly towing, and never done any internal engine work, just normal maintenance.
If you are using the FL1995 filter or equivalent, you can go the 5000 miles. With a turbo, it's even better to use a Dino/Synthetic blend oil. Always best to let the engine idle for at least a minute before shutting down, that turbo is still spinning hi speed, maybe around 100K + RPM.
