will only run for periods of time

i have a 85 f250 4x4 6.9 and i bought it and it died the first day then i bleed the injector lines and it ran then i drove it probably 25 miles and it died and that happend about 4 times and finnaly i wouldnt start after bleeding them so i put a new fuel pump a new 7.3 fuel injector pump and a new fuel filter but it seems like its running on 7 cylinders but not sure and it blows a ton of smoke but im not complaing about that but could it be my injectors or fuel water sperator? what would make it just die after 30 minutes??

You could have a lot of crud or algae in the tank and that clogs the pick-up screen while running and settles out while you bleed the lines.

When you replaced the IP did you remove or loosen the IP gear cover? Lots of smoke and a miss could be a timing problem.

Your right, if the filter is full, it is not starving.

When you replaced the IP did you remove or loosen the IP gear cover? There is one manual that incorrectly has you remove the cover.

Check the battery grounds, then run a wire from the battery to the FSS on the IP. You will have to pull the wire to turn the truck off, but this will let you see if it is an electric problem.

Why did you put a 7.3 IP on a 6.9? I seem to remember the guy at the local IP re-building and injector shop saying that a 7.3 pump will fit on a 6.9, but that it isn't exactly the same, and it won't run right.
