Yay! I just passed the I/M test!!other ??'s.

Hi Diesel Stop,

I'm a new member and I'm just writing to thank everyone for their posts about passing the emissions test. I live in Utah and it's been a pain the butt to get my 86 6.9 to pass. Your tips and advice helped me immensely!

I know this may sound ignorant but I'm new to the whole diesel truck scene; my truck is a 4-speed manual with 4 wheel drive. What tranny is in this truck? What is the stock rear end axle ratio in this truck? Also, what is the death wobble?(i've seen a lot of posts about it but can't figure out what people are talking about). When I drive the truck it feels like I'm floating and have no control of the steering! Any thoughts and/or advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Rem.

hmm...not quite sure. They measured the opacity % at 30% and then at WOT. Maybe Utah's emissions aren't as strict as Cali's!! The maximum you can have in Utah is 30%. I'm still learning all of this diesel lingo!! Thanks for any help. The truck had been sitting for three years so I relied on the forum to help me get the truck up to spec! Thanks again.

Thanks. I was just wondering, I have not had to "smog" my truck YET . But C.A.R.B. is trying to introduce legislation to require ALL diesels operating in CALIF. to be retrofitted with a DPF.

The 86 4-speed is the T-19. For the differentials 4:10 is the most common, high rpms at 75. 3:55s give better mileage but less pulling power. Rear-end code is listed on your door panel.

Welcome to the site.

what's the DPF?? it was funny, i took it to one place and it failed terribly and then I had it towed to a diesel shop to see what was up and they saw no reason why it should have failed; so I took it to another emissions testing location and it passed with flying colors. crazy. i think some places don't know how to ease in to a diesels' throttle. the shop told me that their testing equipment could be old and clogged too! good luck if you have to have yours smogged.

thanks Joe Mc! It's too dark out to look at the codes right now, but the truck looks like it had a fifth-wheel hookup looking at the holes in the bed. It does tend to run high on the RPM's approaching 60 mph. Thanks for the info.

In California there will be a break off for non computer controlled diesels. That leaves out the 6.9 diesels.

That is why I hate northern Mexico, or the left state, aka California. Anyway welcome to TDS. What part of the SL valley are ya at? I live in Sandy, we should meet up sometime.
