I have have the plain mirrors on my 2000. I would like to upgrade to a towing mirror. Has anyone put the new mirrors with markers on a 2000. I didn't know how hard it would be to get the turn signal wired in. Anyone know where I can get a set of tow mirrors with marker lights or even the olders ones without markers? I know the dealership would be happy to sell me a set but thats probably a lot of $$$. Thanks
It is easy enough to do....and theres a bunch of us here that have done it. You'll need to get the adapters from Ford to convert your round plug to the rectangle plug that the new mirrors have. I also went to the Ford parts guy and purchased the pins to add to the new rectangle shaped plug, popped the new pins into the plug then attached the other end of the pigtail to a Molex plug that I picked up at Radio Shack. By doing that, the installation was all plug and play after I finished running the wiring for the marker and turn lamps and mirror heat. Of course if you want, you can cut the plugs off of the new mirrors and your harness and just splice everything together.
Take a look in the "For Sale" section here on this forum. Occasionally a slightly used set of mirrors will show up.

Thanks for the info. I'm suprised its that easy to do. I figured the marker light and turn signal would be a pain. I found a set for sale, not sure if they are the right ones yet or not.
3C3Z-17683-EAA left mirror assembly
3C3C-17682-EAA right mirror assembly
These have been superceeded to 5C3Z part numbers ...
And you will need covers for the back, either textured black, or unpainted smooth light grey that you can paint - similar to the King Ranch versions. The old style covers will not work. The above part numbers will also need:
For "black textured" (no painting) use the suffix -BAA instead of -CAA
You might also want a '93 Explorer rear defrost switch. This switch is nice because it has a built-in 10 minute timer: F3TZ-18C62-1B
Now the bad news. Best I've found is about $250 a side (mirror + cover), from online Ford parts distributers. And the silly switch is $130 or more. When they changed the part numbers, the price went up. Ford must have figured out what we were doing.
The switch is $5 from a junkyard if you can find it.
There's a kit, complete with harness adapters, for $250 for both sides: 2C7Z-1796-AAA. This is NOT with the marker/signal lights, but it does have the heated mirror glass. No news (to my knowledge) on an cheaper upgrade kit with the lights yet.
If anybody has found a less expensive source for the units with the lights, please let me know. I wanted to do this mod but $650 plus to do it made me rethink.
I have seen some stuff on eBay (but not with lights) that are cheaper, but these are aftermarket (chinese?) and I can't say whether they're any good or bad.
Mirrors I've seen in various "For Sale" places are the regular (non-heated no lights) mirrors folks have taken off to do the mods. You can probably sell yours the same way, so you can get back some of your money. They are certainly a step up if you don't have towing mirrors, but it's not where we'd all like to be.
