Question 120/12V converter w/batt. charger died???

Just found this out..to late now..will investigate more later.

I use 2 6V batts parallel..v. reading is 12.46V. Inside trailer lights etc. DON'T work. One 12V acc. light in enclosed storage compartment works. Yeah, kinda wierd?
Voltage alittle low, but seems some lights inside should work?

Plugged in (120/30amp circuit)..all inside lights etc. work..however v. meter shows no charge to batt's..still reads 12.46 V. Maybe charger died, but dosen't answer why batts by themselves want light up inside?

Not exactly sure if this test would show a chg..seems it would, but plugged in..converter making its usual humming sound..batts. disconnected..Got no v. reading at +/- leads to converter/charger.

Any thoughts/ideas appreciated. T I A

I think you mean series.

Anyways, it sounds like a) charger is dead or b) loose connection (ground possibly) somewhere.

I went through this last week with a camper. Ended up being the fused connection right at the battery. Everytime I moved it, the lights went on/off. Bad connection there, and then later on the terminals themselves.

12.4v is low btw, shoot for 12.6-12.8 for a fully charged battery.

Parallel is (-) to (-) and (+) to (+). This combines the Amperage of the batteries but the voltage is the same.

Series is (+) to load (-) to the other (+) and the other (-) to load. This combines the voltage.

The aux light works because it is wired in before the converter. An incandescent bulb doesn't care if the polarity is reversed.

I'm no expert on converters so all I can say do is check the fuse. I would think they have reverse polarity protection, but I don't know. You may want to check over at IRV2.NET there are some smart folks over there too. You can be sure you aren't the first one to do this, so don't feel too bad, we all have our moments.

Just a heads up for those who don't know where circuit breaker for their converter is (like me) So...

FWIW..Found mine..not easy to get to & needed light to spot it. Was on inside front corner of wall underneath couch/bed. Pushed reset button..alls well. Live & learn.
