14,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

I am looking for a heavier system to pull my 14,000+ lb toy box. I just bought the Reese Titan 2 1/2" hitch for my truck. I am now looking to upgrade the rest of the system. I am looking at the Titan weight distributing system and the Blue Ox system. Anybody have experiance with either of them? I have heard the Titan sway system is hard to setup.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

What kind of trailer do you have?
Are you sure on that weight?
I have not heard of a tag trailer being that heavy.

My buddy uses the Reese system. His is rated at 1700/14000.
The dual cam system is easy to set up.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

That's the Reese system I am looking at. I had heard the cam system was hard to set up. I am currently using their standard 12,000 lb setup.

My trailer is a 34' tri axle Campmaster with full living quarters and heavy Jeep CJ trail rig inside. The GVW on it is 15,0000lbs. When I pulled it from Ohio to the the Rubicon trail in California, I weighed it on the Flying J scales at a combined weight with my Superduty of 22,500 lbs.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

For that kind of weight you need a SuperHitch or PullRite
I'm partial to PullRite's myself, they pull more like a 5r (no tail wagging)

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

Don't know about the Blue OX but real happy with my Reese system. (Titan & dual cam) Ordered it over the net, installed it, & used it. I did think a lot about it and downloaded the instructions from Reese's site before buying it. Followed their instructions step by step and had no problems. Hardest part was deciding on a level place to do the final alignment. Wound up going to a closed Kmart parking lot. Followed the instructions and when I did the final check, indications were that it was correct. Went to a CAT scale and it checked out. Been on several short trips and one 2,400 miler. Couldn't be happier. I put it on cruise control at 65mph and just let the miles fly by. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

I'm watching this post too. Buying a front kitchen travel trailer with a 1120 pound dry tongue weight. Trying to decide if my Ford 12500/1250 receiver and Reese 12000/1200 hitch will be enough or if I need to upgrade to the Titan receiver and hitch.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

Do you "need' a better hitch- depends.....are you a gambler?

If it isn't enough you just might need those "Depends"

Personally I've always been a "buy a little better than you need" kinda guy rather than a "that's just good enough" kinda guy

I pull a front kitchen trailer (Arctic Fox) which has a reputation for being quite heavy. I put the putnam class V on mine. I also did the stiffener to the bumper like some have done. The feel is rock solid. My tongue weight is in the 1100# range. I had it weighed just after filling with fuel and I was not over any weight ratings.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

Thanks for the help guys. I think I am going with the Titan setup. I like the fact that it has the full 2 1/2" draw bar to match up with the hitch. The Blue Ox is only a 2" draw bar. I've been pulling the trailer on the factory 12,000 lb hitch with a 12,000 lb Reese weight distributing system for the last three years.(yea it's a bit over the limit) It pulls ok but it is showing signs of wear at all the moving parts. I will post up when I get the new system installed.

Re: 15,000 lb weight distributing hitch systems?

The thing you have to be aware of is these types of trailers are heavier on the tongue unloaded than when you put something in the back and behind the rear axles. My smaller TT doent weigh near that muck but tounge weight unloaded is still at 1300 about 150 lbs less than with 3 ATV's in the back. I bumped up to a 1500/15000 setup.
