2.5" receiver problems

Have any of you had any problems removing the 2" spacer from your 2.5" receiver hitch? A buddy of mine was telling me about him not being able to remove his ball mount. Going on his words, I though I'd check mine. Sure enough, I had to beat mine out with a steel bar and a 3 lb sledge hammer! Now, I am trying to get the spacer to slide back in with out any success. It seems to be sticking a little over half way in. I've tried using a steel brush, emory cloth, file, etc. I just cannot seem to get it cleaned up enough to work. I have even used an electric grinder to clean up the sleeve. I haven't given up, just trying to regroup with a better plan of attack.
Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks!

I don't know why you would have a spacer in your hitch BUT ! have you tried to reverse direction? Can that be done or rotate it 180 degrees?
I have a Putnam class V 16,000 pound rec hitch.

Many people use a 2" adapter on the 2-1/2" receiver in order to utilize existing ball mounts. As stated above, the Putnam XDR puts class V capacity under it while staying at 2". The problem is usually with the wallowed out hole for the mounting pin, keep grinding and try a flip. If you get it back in and need to swap occasionally, consider staying at 2". Putnam makes a solid shank 15K 2" ball mount.

The adapter needs to be a tight fit so it doesn't flop around. If the adapto and the receiver are the same brand, then be sure there are no burrs on or near the holes in the receiver and adaptor, then use WD-40 on the adaptor to make it easier to slide.

The Ford 15k 2.5" receiver was not available for your '99.5 SuperDuty, so you have added it aftermarket. But different brands of 2.5" adaptors won't fit other brands of 2.5" receivers. So be sure your adaptor is the same brand as your receiver. For example, a Reese Tow Monster 2.5" adaptor won't fit in a 15k Ford 2.5" receiver without use of a big hammer.

DRW SuperDuty pickups now come with a Ford 15k receiver that has a 2.5" receiver. The Reese Tow Monster receiver is 2.5" receiver. But most drawbars are 2" instead of 2.5". So if you want to use an old 2" drawbar/ball mount with your new 2.5" receiver, you need the adaptor. Ford sells one for the 15k receiver. Reese sells one for the Tow Monster (old name was theTitan Class V).

Granted, persnickety folks will buy new 2.5" drawbars to fit their 2.5" receiver. But old folks like me with a garage full of different drop 2" drawbars might want to use the old drawbars for lighter trailers. Thus we need the adaptors.

oops! different truck

Smokey,
I'm sorry. I haven't added my "new" truck to my sig. I just bought an 05 F350 CC dually. It came with the 2.5" receiver hitch. That is what I was working with. Sorry for the confusion, but thanks for the help. I finally got it to slide freely last night. I had to take a grinder and do a little grinding on the sleeve. I will be sure to keep it cleaned and lubed.

weld a bolt to the outside edge so you can grip it that helps a bit getting out but make sure it wont interfere with the hitch
