2001 F-350 trailering question

Here's the deal: Everything works on my 7 pin plug except for the trailer tow backup lights. I can't get any power to it, so the trailer brake solenoid won't engage and release the brakes to let me back up. I've checked the fuses and they appear to be okay. The owner's manual says there should be a relay for the trailer tow backup lights, but the number location that it gives, 38, doesn't exist (or I can't find it). I've searched archived threads and couldn't come up with a solution. Can anyone help me solve?

your truck came with a bag with 2 relays and 2 fuses( if I remember right )
that you need to plug into the fuse box under the hood. These are needed
to make your plug work.

I believe all of the relay locations are filled under the hood, which would lead me to believe one is bad. Any idea which one I am looking for?

I know zippo about this electronics stuff, but here's my guess.

On my '99.5, there is a small relay box (about 1" x 2") next to the big power distribution fuse/relay box under the hood. Mine is a 4x2, so I don't have ESOF, and my little attached extra box has only two relays in it. I'll bet that's #38 and #39 that was part of my optional trailer tow pkg. (Trailer tow was std on your 2001.) And if you have ESOF, that little extra fuse/relay box probably also includes #40 relay, which is for the optional ESOF.

But note that's my guess, so don't take it to the bank.

Actually, I have two of those smaller boxes. I saw those last night and was wondering about them, but I didn't open because they are taped shut. Guess I'll crack them open and see if there are relays present. Thanks.
