2001 F250 tow outlet wire sizing?

In addition to there being wires for tow vehicle lights I assume that one of the wires to the tow vehicle plug in the rear bumper of my F250 is a simple 12v hot line. Does anyone know the wire size used for this line? TIA njb

If you're talking about a 7-pin trailer tow plug, then yes, one of the wires is 12V key on power, usually used for trailer battery charging. On the 7-conductor cables you can buy, that wire is usually #10, with the rest being smaller gauge (higher number).

I believe that Ford's color code for the trailer charge circuit (truck side) is orange. On my truck, (and possibly yours) it's controlled by a relay under the hood.

The rest of the wires won't necessarily be smaller. The brake wire should be at least a #10. And the ground wire may be fairly large too.
