22.5" Big Wheel Question

Does anyone tow with a set of 22.5" rims on a 4x4 dually?? If so, does it tow good and what are your RPMs like at 70mph. This is assuming you have 4:10 gears like me. Also, what kind of weight are you towing? I'm 40' and 15,000 lbs. Do you think the gear ratio change will be too much to tow this kind of weight??

<font color="green">One thing I do know about tall wheels/tires, they have a lot of leverage against the wheel-bearings.

Be prepared to replace front bearings pretty often.

A tall tire will ride, drive, and go better than a shorter tire, if you are willing to replace bearings every five, or so, thousand miles. </font>

I can't say I have ever heard of that one before. I have had many trucks with tires as large as 38's and I have never had to replace wheel bearings until I hit around 100,000 miles. They have all been Fords though. Maybe just lucky........

I believe that offset is much more a critical wear factor for bearings than tire diameter. It's a matter of the moment acting on the bearing.

Well to mount "wide" wheels on a truck you need to have more offset to the outside which puts more leverage on the bearings...

There's no reason why a low profile 22.5" tire would have to be very tall or very wide. They would be heavier, simply because the tires are thicker.

They will tow fine, but that is alot of additional rotating weight. That makes it harder to start and stop.
