32' Travel Trailer

I am looking at a 32' Travel Trailer, Toy Hauler. Dry, it is 8100lbs and loaded it is about 10,400lbs. Hitch weight is 800lbs. I am putting air bags on the truck in my sig and wondering if anyone thinks I am nuts here. They will use a 12K eq. hitch as well. I like the travel trailer so I can have room in my truck for smaller atv's.

Thanks,

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

Thanks, I think the hitch I have for my 24TT is 10K. Is there a bigger one than 12K?

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

I think you are a little light on the 800 lb tongue figure. Although you should really have about 12 to 15% of the tt as tongue weight, so you are probably looking in excess of 1k++ as truer tongue weight.

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

I just got those figures off of the Man. website. With other options such as a gen. in the front (where they have it wired), the tongue and overall wt. will go up as well. These figures are all for base trailers without options I guess now that I read it further.

What is the rating for our reciever hitch on the 2000, F250. Is it around a 1000?

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

My 26ft Toy hauler is more in the range of 1500lb tongue weight and 8500lbs total dry. I would check the tongue weight on that since its a toy hauler and made to compensate the weight of the toys. on a different note i took mine with my 07 f150 5.4 crew to michigan from florida and back and have been on many trips since while waiting on my 350. it did fair, so your 250 should be fine.

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

My 28' Jayco Talon has 1500# ~ 1800# depending on how its loaded and 1400# empty. The Jayco lit. shows 800# buy a scale and weigh it, you will need to go to a 2.5" class 5 reece titan wd set up.

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

I would think that the tounge weight is going to have to be in the range suggested by several of these posts to have the trailer handle properly when towing. I would also suggest the Reese Titan WD hitch and also use the Dual Cam sway control with it.

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

What is the rating for the standard receiver hitch Ford installs. I looked at the Reese Class V and it is rated at 14,000lbs.

Re: 32' Travel Trailer

Thats 1400#s tounge 14,000#s tot. weight carying, its 1700#s tounge, 17000#s weight distributing. You will need to change the reciever on the truck to 2.5" in order to use the Reece Titan. The factory hitch is rated 1000#s tounge, I think.

I was way over the rating on my truck when I bought my trailer, the dealer said I was ok. So I got rid of my f250 and upgraded to handle the load, it took a couple years to figure out why I was swaying so bad and thats when I bought a scale and found out I was way over my limit, the hitch on my 99 was rated for 1000# tounge. I was sometimes loading my trailer twice the limit of my truck without knowing, I would not want to be over the ratings very much, 100~200#s max.

My jayco is a front bedroom, so when you put stuff in the drawers, closet and cabonets that all adds tounge weight. The addvertised weight does not include propane, batteries, matress and anything else you added like gen. a/c stove.

I check my tounge weight every time I load up and adjust coolers and tools to balence the load, it made a huge difference in the way the trailer handled. I even added a rear reciever hitch onto the trailer to put a hitch-hauler on back to help take weight off the tounge, I have seen 2100#s on the tounge fully loaded with water and toys, and had to move stuff onto the hitch-hauler to offset the weight.

Good luck, the scale is a sherline, I think
