Pulling my 15.5K 5ver up the major passes in Colorado,(Eisenhower & Vail) I have found that pulling the gear selector into 3, gives me a comfortable 2500 RPM, approx. 35 MPH, & minimal boost. I am not in a hurry, so the speed I am fine with. I do use the tow/haul feature. My question, is do you think the TC is locked up in this application? Appreciate your help. On occasion, I do use the ole trick of turning on the heater, to help dissapate the heat. The turbo fan will seldom even come on when I use this trick. Of course the windows are down, but my feet sure do get hot!! thanx again..dan

they musta changed the gear selector. my 99 has the overdrive in and out buttong the end of the lever.
I usually take mine out of overdrive when starting up a long tall grade so it don't have to make that screaming high torque shift by itself.
My TC slways locks up with the od locked out. On mine you can tell by the rpm.
I guess my truck wishes you owned it. It has to pull those long grades with the rad fan howling and the ac on. However, it has not overheated in 7 years.
Here are two options that came to mind after reading your post:
1) You can add a TC lockup light in about an hour and see exactly when you TC is locking up. Check it out on Diesel Innovations, very simple to do and cost about $10 for the parts from radio shack.
Well, thanx guys...Casey..etc..that is about all I can do pulling in 3rd. I can't pull the mountains in 4th. Good thing @ that elevation it is only 50 deg. in the summer. later..leaving monday the 4th. for a couple weeks @ Powell.
