40' trailer with and weighs 14000....what EGT'S??

Hello, I have never read this part of TDS before. "Towing and hauling " Just wondering what you guys think my egts should be hauling. I guess I really want to know comparisons. I used to haul a 40' trailer for many purposes. The trailer weighs 3200 empty. I got that off of a cat scale. I generaly put around 8K pounds on it easily. My biggest load was 11K pounds. My poor truck was struggling. My truck is listed below in sig. I weighed myself at a can scale and a recycling scale to get a happy medium. The trailer with its weight was 14000 even. It was bouncing between that and 14020 and 14000 cause it reads 20 LB incraments. My truck pulled it (in my opinion) Awsome! I could get up to 75 and maintain. I was pulling it through Huachuca to Phoenix. Theres many large hills there. My temps on the levle were around 800-900. Yes when I hit hill it would climb. Only once did I have to slow down to 55 cause a Big Rig with a flat "limping" it to "tripple T". So to be fare my temps were 900 degrees easily. Is that a common temp? I mean for the weight. I know some 5ers say they pull a 14k trailer and cruise all day happy. So is 900degrees all day "happy"?? With a hill pushing it to 1150deg. easily?? I just did what my truck could do without hurting it. Just sending feelers out there. Those days with the 40' trailer are over. (If your in the Florida area I am selling one of the 40' trailers) Had to slip that in. Thanks!!!

Sounds good, assuming your thermocouple is mounted pre-turbo. If your thermocouple is in the downpipe, then nobody knows what is a decent EGT, but 1,150º post-turbo may be as high as 1,600º pre-turbo. And 1,600º pre-turbo is way too hot for the health of your aluminum pistons.

I hope you select 40-tow when your trailer weighs over about 12k. 60-tow is good for about 8 to 12k trailer weight, even though Jody says it's good for up to 13k. But since you have both 40-tow and 60-tow available, I'd make 12k the change point.

900º pre-turbo EGT with that load on that road is happy. You should often see over 1,000º, and for some of the long, steep grades you might have to back out of the go pedal to not exceed 1,250º.

My trailer usually weighs right at 8,000, and in 60-tow tune I see about the same as you are seeing.

Yes the pyro is pre turbo. Yes 40T is the only setting I put it in for that. Ok thanks Smokey. I know I could get that truck hot. I cnt imagine how these guys pull LARGE 5ers and manitain the temps. They are pushing a lot of wind.
