Several months ago, one of the largest trailer distributors on the East Coast told me that the 6.4 Tow Command brake controller is no good, that it does not apply brakes below something like 15 miles per hour
I have not talked with him recently.
I tow a 4 horse trailer with the standard electric brakes about 20,000 miles per year. About 25 trips a year down a very steep mountain grade on which the max speed is 25 MPH.
Has this brake problem been fixed?
My present 7.3 has the Master Brake controller which is absolutely the best I have ever seen. Should I keep it and bypass the Ford system until it is debugged, or is it debugged?
If it has been debugged, does it self compensate for loaded vs. empty trailers or do you have to adjust for empty weight to keep from locking the trailer brakes and skidding the tires?

CSSJR </div></div>Keep your Master Brake or purchase a new BrakeSmart from Dr. Performance. You probably have an electric over hydraulic brake system on your trailer and the TowCommand does not play well with the hydraulic pumps. The speed issue was changed in '06 IIRC but the newer versions still do not work with some hydraulic pumps.

BrakSmart was originally manufactured by Master Brake Systems, Dallas, TX.
I know not where today.
So the question remains: Does the Ford system work on plain old electric brakes?

I tow a 15,000 lb Teton 5th wheel (standard electric drum brakes) and am very satisfied with the Ford IBC. It has much better braking capabilities than the Prodigy controller on my previous Chevy 3500. Ford has done a great job of integrating the truck/trailer braking functions.

Mine is a 4 horse Sundowner with the standard electric drum brakes, so I will be OK with the new truck.
Thanks again.
And never forget the HSUS is after all of us.
